OVERVIEW - TVO Method for MAX-Hydration

What is the TVO Method for MAX-Hydration?

MAX-Hydration is achieved when your hair has reached its optimum potential of moisture resulting with your curls being defined from root to tip with little or no product. The TVO Method for MAX-Hydration helps you achieve this objective! This method entails a 5-Step Process using the TVO line of products that are specifically formulated to enhance hydration when the TVO process and products are used as recommended. Some immediate results will manifest, but reaching MAX-Hydration is achieved with time and consistency.

Why do you need it?

Kinky/Coily hair tends to look frizzy (a.k.a. Nappy) 90% of the time because: (a) it has the lowest moisture and moisture retention levels, (b) it has a hard time absorbing moisture, and (c) it is chronically dry due to the tightness of the hair coils and its porosity. Nappy is not a hair type! Nappy is a hair condition! This hair condition is caused by the hair cuticles trying to reach out into the atmosphere for moisture and finding none: hence, this inability to receive moisture creates a frizzy look that we call Nappy. This condition of hair is the result of chronic dryness, that is, the inability to effectively receive moisture into the hair shaft.

Chronic dryness occurs when the cuticles are resistant to moisture or are not open enough to receive moisture. This chronic dryness condition of hair is more susceptible to build up caused by greasy oils, protein, silicones, parabens, mineral oils, heavy butters and oils that block the cuticles from receiving moisture. It is also sensitive to drying alcohols and sulfates. For these reasons, kinky/coily hair benefits from techniques which involve regular, frequent, and consistent introduction of moisture into the hair strands to reach MAX-Hydration.

How is MAX-Hydration Achieved?

MAX-Hydration is achieved using the TVO Method. The TVO Method is a 5-Step Method to help you build/increase moisture levels in your hair overtime.  All 1st time users of the TVO Method must follow the regimen of the Accelerated TVO Method then after 4 weeks switch to the Regular TVO Method.

The Accelerated TVO Method requires doing All 5 Steps once a week for 4 consecutive weeks while doing Steps 3-5 every 3 or 4 days after wash day for maintenance.  The Regular TVO Method requires doing All 5 Steps every 2-4 weeks while doing Steps 3-5 every 3 or 4 days after wash day for maintenance.

Going past 3-5 days will cause a decrease in your moisture levels which is a slight setback to reaching MAX-Hydration, but you can get back on track and stay on track. You Can Do This!!! The TVO Line is specifically designed to help achieve MAX-Hydration and curl definition when the regimen is followed the correct way.

What happens when I reach MAX-Hydration?

Once you reach MAX-Hydration, your hair will coil/curl from the root to the tip and you don't have to use as much product! Your hair will be able to hold moisture for longer periods of time. Consequently, your hair won’t become dry and frizzy as quickly, and your curls will clump up allowing them to become more apparent and noticeable. The clumping will aid in eliminating tangles and knots so that you will be able to keep your hair styles for longer periods of time. In addition, your hair will be healthy because it is sufficiently moisturized. Healthy hair GROWS faster!

DETAILED WALKTHROUGH - STEPS & TIPS

The Full TVO Method Steps 1-5 will take about 2.5 hours or less to complete, but it goes quickly once you get the hang of it. If needed, these steps can be broken up over a 2-day period. You can do Steps 1 and 2 on day 1 then do Steps 3-5 the next day. Do it the way that is convenient for you; however, DO NOT let your hair dry in between steps!!! Use a plastic cap keep it moist.

After the first full regimen, you should notice a difference in your hair hydration, and it gets better each time. MAX-Hydration will happen in stages and it is reached when all of your coils/curls are defined from the root to the tip. All of your hair strands will eventually reach MAX-Hydration with continuous use of the TVO Method.

NOTE:  Sometimes when you begin using the TVO Method, your hair may feel stiff, sticky, or dry; especially, if you have damaged hair from heat and color or from lack of maintenance.  This stiff, sticky, or dry feeling may also be a result of product build-up from using products with harsh ingredients. This dry feeling may persist until the residues of wax, protein and plastic polymers (product buildup) have been completely removed from the hair shaft. The removal of product build-up requires time and patience in order to prepare the hair for a consistent maintenance regimen.

The best analogy is like stripping old wax from a hardwood floor. The floor looks rough and dry while you're going through the stripping process. After you have removed all of the old wax, you get to the natural wood. Now, getting to the natural wood could require several applications. But, once you get to the natural wood, you are able to treat and bring out its natural beauty!

DETAILED WALKTHROUGH --- High Porosity Hair

Before You Begin ...

Do a pre-poo/treatment using coconut/olive oil and leave-in conditioner on dry hair for 30 minutes up to overnight. Use a plastic cap or a hair steamer for 10 to 15 minutes, then finger detangle your hair thoroughly focusing on removing tangles and shed hair.  Afterwards, rinse your hair with warm water.

*Important:  Apply Steps 1 and 2 outside of the shower then rinse the products.  Apply Steps 3 to 5 in the shower on SOAKING WET hair. Use wet hands to shingle/finger rake/praying hands method through your hair.

If your hair length is short, do the shingling method and use very small sections. If your hair length is medium, do the finger raking method and use medium sections. If your hair length is long, do the praying hands method using larger sections. Experiment and see which method gives you your desired curl pattern.

Step 1  (High Porosity)

Carmel-tini Treatment

Divide damp hair into 6-8 sections. Starting in the back, apply the Carmel-tini Treatment on the roots using a tint/applicator brush or using your fingers. Once applied on the roots of the section, apply the mixture all the way to the ends gently finger raking/shingling. Complete all sections in this manner. Once completed, place a plastic cap on your hair for at least 30+ minutes, or sit under a hair streamer for 20 minutes. DO NOT sit under the dryer! Make sure you protect your clothes by putting a towel around your neck. Rinse well with warm water.

Step 2  (High Porosity)

Good Earth Mud Mask

Distribute the Good Earth Mud Mask liberally onto sectioned wet/damp hair. Gently massage the hair and scalp making sure all of your hair and scalp is covered with product. Re-wet/mist your hair with warm water and take extra time to focus on finger raking gently while pulling the Good Earth Mud Mask through the ends of the hair section by section. Cover hair with a plastic cap and leave on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.

Step 3  (High Porosity)

Apple Cleansing Co-Wash

While in the shower, wet your hair thoroughly for 1-2 minutes as you gently massage your scalp using the balls of your fingers.  Make sure that you DO NOT disturb your curls. Apply the Apple Cleansing Co-Wash to thoroughly wet hair section by section. Gently massage your scalp as though you are shampooing. If your hair is not saturated and your fingers don't easily slip down your strands, add more water. Next, lightly squeeze the ends of your hair (squishing sound). Again, try not to disturb your curls. Rinse about 80% of the Apple Cleansing Co-Wash from your hair.

Step 4  (High Porosity Hair)

Krazy 4 Coconut & Okra Condish

Use on SOAKING WET hair. Section hair and apply the Krazy 4 Coconut Condish GENEROUSLY to the hair starting in the back while working your way to the front.  Make sure that you saturate your hair with product. If your hair is not fully saturated with product and your fingers don't easily slip down your strands, add more product or water.  Shingle/finger rake/praying hands method through your hair section by section to start defining your curls. Start at the ends and gently proceed up to the hair strands. DO NOT rinse for this is your leave-in conditioner.

Step 5  (High Porosity Hair)

Curlfriends Gelee

Part hair and clip in small sections. Your hair should already be SOAKING WET and saturated with Krazy 4 Coconut & Okra Condish from Step 4 above! Apply the Curlfriends Gelee on top of the Krazy 4 Coconut & Okra Condish. Starting at the back section, apply the Curlfriends Gelee to the ends of the hair working your way up the hair strand. Shingle/finger rake/praying hands method to define your Curls. Your hair should feel slippery along the shaft; hence, you are assured that the Curlfriends Gelee is evenly distributed on the hair and moisture is properly sealed in before the slight Gel Cast from the Curlfriends Gelee forms. For a softer hold you can scrunch oil gently on the ends to help break up the Gel Cast.

Once you complete your application of Curlfriends Gelee, re-wet your hair by very quickly dunking it under COLD water for a few seconds. Gently shake your head (like you’re saying ‘no’). This helps to separate the coils and remove excess water. At this point, let your hair completely air dry before touching it or it will become frizzy. The TVO Method will results in a Wash & Go Hair Style! For 2nd and 3rd day hair, revitalize your curls by misting with water or by dunking your head under the shower for a few seconds. Do your Maintenance Wash Day after the 3rd day.

Other General Tips and Suggestions

***Tip:  Should you find that your hair has dried too hard, try re-wetting your hair by misting it with water and add a very little bit of the Leave-In Cream that came with your bundle. Put a plastic cap on your head then place a satin bonnet over the plastic cap 30 minutes up to overnight (Greenhouse).  Remove the cap and your hair should be soft.

***Tip:  You can do a Beautiful Twist-Out Remix on your old Wash & Go Hair Style before doing your next TVO Method Application!  Lightly mist the ends of your hair with Curl-Aid Herbal Refresher Spray, apply Curl Max Cream and then Sweet Georgia Peach Butter to seal your twists.

Next two Strand Twist your hair and finger coil the ends with your fingers.  Once you are finished, leave the Two Strand Twist in until it's completely dry (overnight is best)!  Apply a bit of 24k High Shine Pomade to your finger while taking the Two Strand Twist down in order to keep your hair from frizzing up and to make your Two Strand Twist shiny!  This will result with a beautiful, soft and shiny Twist Out!

***Tip:  Start the TVO Method in the morning so you will have plenty of time for your hair to dry.  It is BEST to let your hair “air-dry.”  The important part is not to touch or mess with your hair until it’s dry. Once you start touching your hair, it will get matted and frizzy. Place an old tee shirt on your hair and GENTLY pat the excess water from your hair.  You may need to walk around with an old t-shirt around your neck to catch the drippies.
