Ingredients Glossary

 

ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)

Can revitalize your hair, leaving it soft and smooth. It works by closing the cuticle of the hair, which makes light reflect off of it. In other words, it makes your hair super shiny! Acidity of ACV is close to that of natural hair, it’s a good conditioner and cleaning agent and it’s also an effective germ killer.

Almond Oil

This is one of the most useful, practical, and commonly used oils. It is great for all skin types as an acting emollient and is best known for its ability to soften, soothe, and re-condition the skin. It is truly marvelous as a carrier oil and is equally superb for addition to body care products.

Aloe Leaf Juice

Detangles and Softens Prevent hair loss, thinning, excessive frizz, and dryness Heals and Soothes itchy Scalp and Dandruff Balances pH Level (Porosity) of Hair Replenishes moisture and repair damaged hair.

Amla

A natural antioxidant and rich source of Vitamin C. The Amla fruit yields an oil that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to condition the hair and scalp. It is said to penetrate the scalp, strengthen hair at its root and promote stronger, healthier hair growth.

Apple Extract

Stimulates the growth of hair. After testing hundreds of botanical extracts for years, a group of Japanese researchers at the Tsukuba Research Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan, found two compounds that successfully promoted hair growth in 2002. One of these was from chardonnay grapes, while the other was from apples. The apple extract performed significantly better than any of the other compounds tested.

Avocado Oil

Loaded with skin and hair nourishing Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, and Beta carotene. It is best suited for dry skin conditions in topical applications.

Bamboo Extract

Retains moisture in the hair shaft and assists in filling in and temporarily smoothing out the ruffled, roughened hair cuticle of damaged hair.

Bentonite Clay

Gives your hair shine, luster, bounce, body and makes your natural curls pop without the need of styling aids. Best of all, this clay can do all those things without stripping your hair of it’s natural oils! Bentonite is useful for: Clarifying and cleansing hair because it binds to and attracts dirt and other impurities. Conditioning and moisturizing hair Calming skin/scalp conditions such as eczema Nourishing hair. Bentonite is not as rich in minerals and nutrients as Rhassoul is but it does contain some and these would be imparted to hair. Don’t store or mix Bentonite in a metal dish as its effectiveness may be reduced. Use glass or plastic.

Black Seed Oil

Has many moisturizing qualities, as it contains the fatty acids needed to protect hair from damage. These acids create a layer over the hair that keeps the elements, toxins and day-to-day wear and tear from affecting the hair. Black seed oil also contains many helpful vitamins that can be massaged into the scalp.

Blue Malva

Softens, conditions, and gives hair back its bounce, which makes it perfect for all hair types, but particularly useful for fragile and fine hair that tends to break easily.

Botanical Infusion of Herbs

Known to detangle, condition and stimulate the hair and scalp: Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Chamomile, Hibiscus, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Fenugreek, Lavender, etc.

Bhringaraj Oil

An ancient Ayurvedic herbal remedy for hair loss, premature graying and skin allergies, which helps rejuvenate skin and hair. Considered the "king of herbs" for hair growth, it adds deep moisture and acts like a multivitamin for hair to help strengthen the hair shaft, provide natural shine and may also helps with dandruff. Excellent hair loss treatment is well proven for its miraculous and restorative benefits.

Behentrimonim Methylsulfate (BTMS)

An emulsifier derived from conola oil. It imparts excellent body and spring to hair by improving wet combing, leaving hair silky smooth and tangle-free.

Botanical Infusion

Botanicals are typically dried herbs, flowers or berries. A liquid is typically boiled (or brought to another appropriate temperature) and then poured over the herbs, which are then allowed to (infuse) steep in the liquid for a period of time. The liquid may then be strained or the herbs otherwise removed from the liquid. A botanical infusion is also the name for the resultant liquid.

Brahmi Oil

Nourishes hair roots, promoting growth, shine and elasticity. Coats the hair follicle providing an extra layer of protection and thus preventing both discoloration and split ends while promoting luster. Replenishes hair roots with the necessary moisture and cure your dandruff problems. Makes the hair follicle stronger with continued use.

Burdock

Rich in fatty acids that stimulate blood flow to the scalp, nourishes and strengthens hair follicles, to promote healthy hair growth and improve the overall condition of hair. The silica and phytosterols in burdock help soothe irritated scalp conditions like dandruff, decrease breakage and repair hair while adding sheen, hydration & luster. It increases shine and gives body to limp hair. The mucilage in Burdock Root also helps add “slip” to your hair to make detangling easier.

Calendula

Also known as the ‘pot marigold’ and best known as a skin care herb. However, the petals of the plant are usually used with great effect for hair, it can be used as a dandruff remover, the tea can be used as a hair rinse to bring out blonde and brunette highlights. Using the herb in conjunction with others can make the hair soft with a lovely sheen.

Candelilla Wax

Derived from the Candelilla plant, this natural wax possesses extraordinary film-forming & protective properties.

Castor Oil

Rich in fatty acids and is very soothing and lubricating to the hair. Acts as a humectant attracting moisture to the hair. Conditioning, thickening and softening properties.

Cetearyl Alcohol

An emulsifying vegetable wax produced from a mixture of fatty alcohols. Made from cetyl and stearyl alcohol derived from palm and coconut oils which together form an occlusive film to keep hair moisture.

Cetyl Alcohol

A fatty alcohol produced from vegetable oils such as palm oil and coconut oil. It is use an emulsifier, surfactant and emollient to add lubrication to hair.

Chamomile

Known to stimulate growth, soften hair, sooth the scalp and condition the hair.

Chia Seed Oil

Derived from the ancient super-food chia, which is the richest botanical source of Omega 3 fatty acids found in nature. Significantly increase skin hydration, reduce trans-epidermal water loss and increase barrier function in even the driest hair and skin.

Clove

Makes a great rinse after conditioning to enhance hair color for dark hair with auburn or red highlights, it brings warm tones to browns and enhances red and auburn highlights. Used in conjunction with eucalyptus oil, clove oil can be rubbed into the scalp to prevent hair loss and enhance hair growth.

Coco Butter

A natural emollient and moisturizer, penetrates the hair shaft promoting increased volume and hair strength and helps prevent hair loss due to breakage for those with fine or damaged hair. Cocoa butter can improve the texture of hair, detangle coarse hair, alleviate scalp itching and irritation and replenish lost oils due to chemical processing, such as coloring and perms. Cocoa butter can be used as a pomade for styling difficult or frizzy hair.

Coconut Cream

Combats dryness Promotes healthy,thick and shiny hair Acts as a natural detangler for your hair Restores dry, damaged, weakened and brittle hair Coconut Oil Penetrates the hair shaft Protects and adds body making hair thicker Retains moisture and proteins meaning stronger silkier, shiny hair Increases protection against itchy and dry scalp.

Coconut Water

Improves blood circulation to the scalp enhances the density of hair tames rough and frizzy hair makes hair soft and shiny prevents itchy scalp and dandruff moisturizes hair follicles to prevent breakage.

Coffee Butter

A natural UV protectan, it contains many beneficial vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial in promoting healthy hair growth, leaving your hair soft and nourished.

Comfrey

Soothes and stimulates the scalp, and enriches lifeless hair. Comfrey, made from root or leaves, poured over hair as a rinse, makes hair soft as silk.

Cupuacu Butter

Promotes smoothness and softness to the hair increasing the natural moisture and elasticity. The butter has proven to be beneficial for brittle, dry hair due to it's long lasting hydration properties to
replenish moisture while promoting a healthy shine. Cupuacu is considered hydrophpllic (water loving) with a high capacity to retain water and prevent moisture loss.

Ginger Root

Helps increase scalp circulation which stimulates hair follicles and encourages growth. The fatty acids composition of ginger root is great for thinning hair. Ginger also has antiseptic properties that work to help with dandruff.

Glycerin

A natural emollient and humectant that draws moisture from the air into the hair shaft. It works well as a conditioner since curly hair tends to get drier than other hair types because of the shape of the hair shaft glycerin adds much needed moisture.

Green Tea

Green Tea is packed with antioxidants which benefit the hair and scalp >by preventing hair loss, soothes dandruff and psoriasis, and also contains vitamin C, vitamin E and panthenol. Panthenol strengthens and softens hair and prevents split ends, while the super Vitamin E restores dry or damaged hair, while vitamin C guards against damage from UV radiation.

Guar Gum

Guar Gum is extracted from the guar bean,guar, is a natural thickener polysaccharides composed of the sugars galactose and manose, making the hair softer and smoother.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds or methi contain proteins and nicotinic acid which are a great source for hair growth. It contains large amounts of lecithin which makes our hair healthy and strong, and hydrates the hair. It helps to reduce the dryness of the hair, cures dandruff, conditions the hair, keeps the scalp cool and treats a variety of scalp issues. It is highly effective against hair fall and provides strength from the roots.

Flax Seed Extract

Flaxseed or linseed, comes from the flax plant, an annual herb. It is rich in mucilage, a complex mixture of polysaccharides that form a soothing gelatinous substance when water is added. The mucilage provides slip like a conditioner that helps detangle hair. Flaxseed, very rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids, strengthens the hair shaft and may help with hair loss.

Hemp Oil

Rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids (EFA's, good healthy fats), it has a full amino acid spectrum meaning that it provides complete protein and it has a high mineral content.

Hibiscus

Ayurvedic Herb is rich in antioxidants and imparts shine to the hair while promoting healthy growth and delaying pre-mature graying.

Honey

Makes hair soft and shiny Natural antioxidant, antimicrobial and antibiotic. Its humectant properties help attract and retain moisture.

Hops

Hops, help heal and repair damaged hair. It contain a nourishing oil that is an effective hair conditioner and thickener. Regarded as useful for hair growth, hops help stimulate scalp circulation. Its antiseptic properties help with dandruff.

Horsetail

Helps brittle hair due to its high silica content. It is nourishing and hydrating, stimulates blood vessels in the scalp and has been used for centuries as a hair growth herb. The silica in horsetail helps to keep hair strong and adds shine and luster to hair.

Irish Moss

A seaweed found off the coast of the Atlantic which imparts body and shine to the hair.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is a liquid wax that closely resembles the sebum of the skin. It is extremely rich in vitamin E which promotes a glowing complexion.

Kokum Butter

A highly prized butter obtained from a tree in India, is high in vitamin E, and rich in essential fatty acids. Kokum butter helps reduce the degeneration of the skin cells, softens and restores elasticity. It is more quickly absorbed into the hair and skin without leaving a greasy feeling.

Lavender

Lavender has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti fungal and anti-septic properties that help with hair loss, shedding and inflammatory scalp conditions. Its ability to balance oil production makes it a great hair care herb for all hair types.

Lecithin

Helps to turn dry, brittle hair into silky, shiny hair. Lecithin also reverses some of the effects of hair aging.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass has astringent and tonic properties that make it useful in the treatment of scalp inflammations. Lemongrass balances skin oil by helping to normalize oil production and is useful for both oily and dry hair.

Licorice

Licorice is a traditional herbal remedy used in India and around the world. The root is good for improving hair growth and is often used in products to help with hair loss. It is helps keep the scalp moist and hydrated and helps strengthen the hair shaft.

Mango Butter

Restores and maintains the moisture and promotes cell regeneration. Possesses similar qualities to cocoa butter and shea butter in the way of consistency and benefits, however it contains higher levels of fatty acid making it a more intensive moisturizer. Contains high levels of antioxidants and beneficial vitamins A, C, and E.

Macadamia Oil

Sustains hair and scalp from the stress and exposure to heat, chemicals and pollutants on a daily basis. Repairs the hair and restore it to its youthful appearance. Contains large amounts of the B vitamins and Vitamin E. Provides your tresses retain their strength, elasticity and suppleness. Allows your hair to grow thicker and stronger Contribute to restoring the hair’s elasticity.

Marshmallow Root

Soothes the scalp providing relief from scalp irritation. It also contains mucilage, which provides slip to help detangle, condition and moisturize hair. High in plant proteins, marsh mallow nourishes the scalp promoting healthy hair growth and luster.

Meadowfoam Oil

Contains 98% fatty acids long-chain carbon atoms. It is resistant to oxidation due to naturally occurring tocopherols, and is one of the most stable lipids known. As a result, it has an extremely long shelf life. Meadowfoam oil also forms a moisture barrier that helps to prevent moisture loss.

MSM

MSM is a naturally occurring form of sulfur found in many foods. MSM naturally lengthen your hair’s growth phase by working with the natural keratin and protein levels of the hair to accelerate the hair growth cycle. Cystein and methionine, two of the sulfur bearing amino acids in hair that affect tensile strength and texture require sulfur for development. The molecular structure of MSM sulfur is small enough to penetrate the dermal layers of the scalp. Once sulfur is absorbed and restored at the hair formation level, the emerging new growth is softer, stronger and richer in color. Helps restore hair to its natural, healthy state.

Neem Oil

Extracted from the seeds of the neem tree an evergreen native to India. Used in certain systems of traditional medicine (such as Ayurveda). Contains several fatty acids that are beneficial to the hair, such as oleic acid and linoleic acid. Promotes hair growth and strengthens hair from the roots. Increases blood circulation in the scalp, leading to a scalp that is well lubricated and not dry. A dry scalp is one of the main reason why hair becomes brittle, weak and looks damaged.

Nettle

Stimulates the scalp, improves circulation, and helps promote promote fuller, more radiant hair. Nettles have a long-standing reputation for preventing hair loss and making the hair soft and shiny. Nettle, an excellent hair conditioner, is rich in minerals and plant hormones, is tonic and astringent and gives a healthy gloss to hair. Nettle is said to be a remedy for oily hair, dandruff, and hair shaft breakage.

Okra

Okra contains mucilage that imparts life and bounce to unruly, curly and lifeless hair. It acts as a great hair conditioner, scalp moisturizer for dry and itchy scalp, fights dandruff and lice, and adds a youthful sheen to your hair.

Olive Oil

Excellent for dry and damaged hair Great penetrative properties due to its high content of oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid and antioxidants such as vitamin E and polyphenols. Promotes shiny, healthy hair and a healthy scalp.

Palm Oil

Palm Oil is pressed from the fruit kernels of the palm tree Elaeis guineensis. It is most commonly found in handmade soap to increase its lather and hardness. It may also be used in a multitude of other cosmetic and bodycare products for its moisturizing properties.

Panthenol

Panthenol is a moisture-binding and soothing substance and keeps more moisture in the hair. It also makes hair look healthier.

Peach Kernel Oil

Rich in vitamins A & E and polyunsaturated fatty acids hence it has high antioxidant and preservative properties.

Pectin

A polyssacharide emulsifier used help thicken hair and boost volume.

Peppermint Leaf

Widely recognized for it's anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and astringent properties. It stimulate nerve endings and increase local blood flow to the scalp and cools and refines the scalp.

Pequi Oil

Possesses a unique combination of essential fatty acids and is highly emollient, making it an effective moisturizer. Helps smooth the hair cuticle to increase smoothness and shine and decrease frizziness.

Plantain

Plantain is a weed commonly found in the wild (not to be confused with the fruit resembling banana). It contains an anti-inflammatory substance called allantoin. This stimulates the growth of new skin cells, kills germs, and speeds wound healing. It is a good scalp stimulant and used in many hair loss treatments.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

A healing oil prized for its high levels of Vitamins A & E, protein, Zinc, Potassium, Iron and Omega Fatty Acids. Pumpkin Seed Oil is also a source of Tyrosine, which promotes pigment formation (and inhibits graying) in the hair.

Quinoa Protein

Makes our hair will look smoother and feel silkier, it forms a protective barrier to protect the hair from environmental stresses, retains moisture in the hair, and provides nutrients to the hair. Unlike the rest of the proteins that will each offer protection, repair, or moisturization Quinoa Protein will offer all of these attributes through enhanced hair penetration and substantivity for increased damage repair and cuticle protection.

Raw Greens

Conditions and feed your hair with raw super-foods and pure plant proteins naturally occurring antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Rhassoul Clay

Contains higher percentages of silica and magnesium along with potassium and calcium, than other clays. Which are excellent for your hair and skin. Your skin and hair absorbs toxins from the environment, just as your body does from foods and the air your breathe and it removes toxins to leave hair conditioned, super-clean and with a lot of shiny volume.

Rice Bran Oil

Extracted from the bran or outer coat of the brown rice grain removed during the milling process. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential oils. Rice Bran Oil also has constituents believed to hinder UV rays absorption at the skin’s surface.

Rosemary

Encourages hair growth by improving blood flow to the scalp, encourages strong, healthy hair, stimulates growth, increases manageability and adds shine. The stimulating and revitalizing properties of rosemary help condition both hair and scalp.

Sage

Sage is rich in antioxidant, astringent, and antibacterial qualities, is a soothing hair tonic and a natural treatment for scalp dryness. Sage adds shine and depth to dark hair and helps darken graying hair. Sage will remove residual shampoo and conditioner that has built up on your hair to leave it shiny and soft.

Safflower Oil

The first choice among manufacturers for cosmetics requiring a moisturizing oil. It is also very popular in massage blends as it is easily absorbed, and can be washed from sheets without heavy staining.

Saw Palmetto

Good for thinning hair and hair loss should apply saw palmetto oil overnight. A gentle massage of fifteen minutes is enough to offer the scalp a generous nourishment and hydration. Saw palmetto helps to strengthen the hair roots and prevents the hair from shedding.

Shea Butter

A penetrating butter, rich in Vitamins and Fatty Acids that softens and moisturizes dry hair while soothing the scalp. It repairs and protects hair against weather damage, heat damage, dryness and brittleness by providing moisture to dry hair and restores luster to damaged hair. It absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp.

Slippery Elm

An emollient that contains carbohydrates with mucilage as being the major constituent which is composed of complex sugars and starches, and tannins, which are plant-based astringents. Slippery elm gives the hair a silky smooth feel.

Silk Amino Acid

The strongest, natural fibre known to mankind. Discovered in Japan, it has been used for centuries in all kinds of products that require durability. Silk has a tiny molecule that can penetrate the entire hair shaft deeper than all other proteins without adding any weight and leaving the hair feeling clean and non-greasy. The silk proteins bind to the keratin that we have in our hair creating a layer to help protect against moisture loss. During this binding process the silk proteins are able to penetrate and strengthen damaged hair.

Sodium Lactate

This naturally occurring sodium salt of Lactic Acid is found in human skin and is a powerful humectant that attracts moisture from the air.

Soy Bean Oil

High in natural source lecitihin, sterolins, and vitamin E, this oil makes a great base for your products which are being created for outer epidermal healing. Soybean Oil is easily absorbed and leaves a smooth sensation to the skin.

Squalane

A lightweight oil derived from olives which mimics the skin's natural sebum.

Sunflower Oil

Contains high amounts of Vitamins A, B, D and E, minerals, and also has beneficial amounts of lecithin and unsaturated fatty acids. By all accounts it is a great product for the skin.

Wheatgerm Oil

 Wheatgerm is rich in natural vitamins A, B, D, and E, Proteins and Lecithin. It is an anti-oxidant that can be added to other carrier oils in order to extend their shelf life naturally.

Wild Cherry Bark

A great conditioner for the hair, when applied hair is smoother and silky. It also accentuates reddish tones on black hair.

White Willow Bark

AKA "herbal aspirin" - is a potent natural healer excellent when used to reduce inflammation. Provides relief for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, dandruff and any skin or scalp condition that produces redness and/or inflammation. The salicylic acid helps exfoliate the scalp, and the tannins are astringent - a winning combination. Great for helping to unclog pores and hair follicles.

Xanthan Gum

A thickener and lubricant composed of pure natural polysaccharides (sugars) to add glide and shine to hair.
