If your hair struggles with moisture retention, I highly recommend using a hair steamer. This is a great way to inject more moisture into your hair. Hair steaming involves using moist heat on the hair as opposed to dry heat from a hooded dryer. Steaming the hair creates a humid environment optimal for absorption of moisture among other benefits such as curl defining and hydration. If you don’t want to use a hair steamer, you can try to prolong your shower sessions letting your curls bask in the steam while you’re deep conditioning with Carmel-tini Treatment or using Mud Mask by Terra Veda Organix (TVO).
We all know healthy hair starts from within. So, with all of the dry air that your hair is subjected to during the winter, hydrating with products can only do so much. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water.
In the spring and summer your hair flourishes because sunlight triggers hair growth hormones, but Autumn brings changes. Hair shedding in Autumn is as natural as leaves falling. As the days grow shorter and colder, the roots of your hair go into dormancy and your hair begins to fall with the autumn leaves. Then, comes the drier winter weather having less humidity in the air and making our hair and skin drier. It really comes down to going back to the basics. Although we already know this to be true, it's good to be reminded.
The following steps will help you retain more moisture in your hair during the winter months:
*Use Terra Veda Organix, Max3 Method- Curl Slayer Gel or Curl Love Moisturizing Styler
*Hot Oil Treatments with Terra Veda Organix, Veda Hair Growth Oil
*Using a thick leave in like Terra Veda Organix, Curl Love Moisturizing Styler
*Deep condition with Terra Veda Organix, Carmel-tini Treatment or Curl Bath Deep Conditioner weekly 30-40 minutes with a steamer
*Using the LOC and baggy method 1-3 days a week as needed with Terra Veda Organix, Curl Refresher Spray, Curl Love Moisturizing Styler and sealing the ends of your hair with Heal & Seal Pomade
*Scalp Massaging 2-4 time a week with Terra Veda Organix, Veda Hair Growth Oil
*Drinking more H2O-water and eating veggies/ fruits daily
*Line your winter hat with silk or satin to stop breakage and split ends.
* Rather than layering product after product, wash your hair more often and add a product to CLEAN and hydrated especially during the winter.
Following a good hair regiment should be done year round. With these hair tips, you can keep your natural hair hydrated, healthy and beautiful throughout the winter and into the new year!

]]>1. Shampoo and Condition your hair least twice a week with Curl Bath Shampoo(do not co-wash) and Curl Bath Conditioner. This is the first step to eliminating dry hair. Do this step regularly and you will see a huge difference in your hair’s hydration levels! Co-washing, cleansing conditioners, no–poo method does not provide adequate cleansing for the hair.
2. Use Curl Bath Clarifying Shampoo and Curl Bath Deep Conditioner once or twice a month or more if you use a lot of styling products. Clarifying Shampoo works great for removing build up, for itchy scalps, for swimmers and for removing minerals deposits from hard water. Build up and mineral deposits prevent much needed moisture from penetrating the hair shaft. Once your hair is clarified your deep conditioner can do it’s job more effectively!
3. Use detoxing clay like Mud Mask and a Restorative Deep Treatment Conditioner like Carmeltini Hair Treatment every 4-6 weeks. Detoxing is a more potent cleansing solution and it’s able to bind toxins / minerals and lift them away their work is focused on the inside of the hair shaft. Toxins and mineral deposits affect the scalp the most. Keeping in mind that the scalp is the birth place of hair, a clean scalp does its best when healthy and unclogged. Also, a healthy scalp is very favorable for hair that grows thick and healthy! A Restorative Deep Treatment like Carmeltini Hair Treatment rebuilds, strengthens and hydrates hair in need extra care. It infuses shine, moisture, and resiliency without weighing the hair down. Hair is transformed with more elasticity, bounce, and vibrancy. This product delivers an intense hydrating and conditioning boost for soft nourished, and more manageable hair.
4. Use a t-shirt or micro fiber towel to dry your hair.
5. Use a Detangling Brush to evenly distribute conditioner through your hair. Also use the brush to define your Curls when using a styler like Curl Love Moisturizing Styler.
6. Daily hydrate your hair as need with Curl Refresher Spray to maintain moisture levels.
7. Use a dryer/ steamer for 30 minutes when doing hair treatments and deep conditioning.
Develop a consistent routine and incorporate the above steps and you will eliminate Dry Hair FOREVER!

Silicones have been widely used in personal care products for years. Most of the silicones used in professional hair care products, specifically shampoos and conditioners, act as emulsifiers because one end of a silicone molecule is attracted to water and the other end is attracted to oil. Most importantly, silicones also condition hair, reduce frizz and are great thermal protectants when using hot styling tools, such as flat irons and blow dryers.
First and foremost, silicones are safe. In fact, the well-respected watchdog site from Environmental Working Group called SKIN DEEP®, rates silicones the best possible rating of “0”. This means silicones are very safe.
Recently, there have been some mixed reviews circulated around the web and in Curly Hair circles about silicones. Let me shed some light on this issue.
There are two main classifications of silicones, water-soluble and non-soluble. Water-soluble silicones, such as Dimethicone Copolyol, Lauryl Methicone Copolyol or any silicone that includes the letters PEG, do not build up in hair and are easily removed with water. Non-soluble silicones, such as Phenyl Trimethicone, Dimethicone and Dimethiconol require a cleanser, such as shampoo, to be removed.
The main issue surrounding silicones, or any type of product that coats the hair, has to do with build up. If you use styling products, as most of us do, build up can occur on the hair shaft. This build up, if not washed out regularly, can cause the hair to become brittle and break off. This goes for any styling products that may or may not contain silicones. People who wash their hair regularly, such as every couple of days, specifically after using any kind of styling product, will rarely experience breakage.
If you wash your hair weekly or less and use styling products regularly, then you may be at risk of breakage due to build up. In this case, it’s important to use Curl Bath Clarifying Shampoo followed by Curl Bath Conditioner or Curl Bath Deep Conditioner to ensure your hair remains soft and manageable. Keep in mind anything you use on your hair whether it be gels, styling creams, pomades or conditioners will all build up over time, so proper maintenance is required.
Remember, just because a product contains silicones, does not make it bad, in fact, it actually makes it better due to the slip, conditioning, smoothing and heat protection benefits this safe ingredient brings to products.

Since becoming natural in 2012, I have been a huge advocate of Co-Washing. So much so, that I formulated Apple Cleansing Co Wash, which by the way happened to be one of the best sellers in my online store. However, in the words of Maya Angelo, “When you know better you do better.” I have had an epiphany and now believe shampooing is definitely the way to go! Curl Bath Shampoo and Curl Bath Clarifying Shampoo are quickly the new best sellers.
Here’s what I have learned: Lots naturals live by conditioner washing (co-washing) only. Co-washing is using conditioner only to cleanse your hair and scalp. You can achieve a co-wash with any conditioner of your choosing. All conditioners contain small amounts of mild cleansing detergents. It’s very popular for hair product companies to create and marketing products to specifically meet the purpose of Co-washing. These products have additional cleansing properties while providing moisture at the same time. Co-washing allows for more hydrated, manageable, softer, and smoother hair during and after the cleansing process. Sounds amazing right? Well consider this, although co-washing has great benefits it also has many disadvantages. It can cause more buildup than it actually removes and may lead to dull, over conditioned hair. If you suffer from any scalp conditions, co-washing could make your condition worse. Also, depending on your hair porosity, you may not see the best benefit from co-washing. If you've been heavy into co-washing, but it seems like your hair is drier than normal - it's probably time to start regularly shampooing. If you use a lot of styling products like heavy gels -its probably time to start regularly shampooing. If it takes a long time for water 💦 to penetrate your hair- it’s probably time to start shampooing. I believe that most of our hair and scalp related issues can be solved with a good sudsing using shampoo. Shampoo is the more traditional way to cleanse the scalp the hair of buildup and residue. Because shampoo has a negative charge on the hair it gently lift the cuticles. Raised cuticles allow more water into the strand, improving internal hydration. That’s why your hair looks so shiny after shampooing it. I have been experimenting by using shampoo for the last 6 months. I shampoo my hair every 3-4 days and results have been amazing. My hair is softer, hydrated and shinier. My styles last so much longer. Who knew that shampooing your hair could be such a Game Changer! Don’t just take my word for it... try it for yourselves!

Benefits of Squishing
Helps hydrate curls.
Promotes curl clumping.
You don’t need a leave in. This will leave your hair with the right amount of conditioner it needs.
How to Squish
Shampoo your hair with Curl Bath Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly under running water.
Generously apply Curl Bath Conditioner or Curl Bath Deep Conditioner and detangle thoroughly using your fingers or wide tooth comb.
Dunk your hair under the shower water for 2 seconds, just enough to get the product all soppy. Collect water in the palm of your hands and squish your hair from ends to the scalp. Do this section by section collecting more water in your palms as you go to a new section.
The squishing action will force the water and conditioner to work together. When you push the water conditioner mixture into the hair, the inside of the hair strand gets filled with water. The hair is absorbing the water and the excess conditioner is being pushed out. You are replacing the conditioner with water with each squish. You should also see curls starting to form. If you feel that your hair is dry or starting to frizz or if your curls aren’t clumping, add more conditioner and repeat the squishing. Then, rinse your hair with cool water. Give it a try and watch your curls POP! This technique works for all curl types. It doesn't matter whether you are low or high porosity!
